Book Week 2019
READING IS MY SECRET POWER
Dear Parents,
Book Week is the highlight of the Childrens’ Book Council of Australia. Each year a series of awards are announced celebrating the rich literature and artistic quality of an array of childrens’ books.
Here at St Pauls, as part of our school Book Week celebration, we will host the annual Book Fair with a great range of books from Lamont. Please see Despina, our library manager who is in charge of sales this week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (20-22nd August).
We also have an author visiting the students next Wednesday 28th August. Phillip Gywnne will inspire us with the creative ways he develops his characters. A popular picture book, “The Queen with the Wobbly Bottom” is a lovely tale about learning to love yourself just the way you are. His story provides a message behind the hilarious text, sending a firm message that love and acceptance are a lot more important than the way one looks.
Throughout the week we will also have ART lessons where the focus will be on exploring & creating an artistic response to a shortlisted Picture Story Book
Weather permitting, we will aim to hold a DEAR Session; where every student and staff member will Drop Everything And Read across the school at the same time.
Throughout the week, class teachers will be using literacy sessions to delve deeper into exploring some wonderful books. Our week will come to an end with the annual Dress Up Day on Friday 30th August. We ask your child/ren to come dressed as a favourite character. Perhaps they can think of one with a Secret Power? This coincides with the Fete Dress up Day and students will be asked to donate books for the Fete next term.
Happy reading everyone!
