Catherine's News Term 2 Week 6

Dear Parents,

On Friday night 161 Year 6 students of Federated schools of St Paul’s, St Catherine’s and St Peter’s gathered with their families, friends and teachers at St Patrick’s Cathedral to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. We were very proud of all students as they received the  third of the Sacraments of initiation, as they were strengthened and sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The celebrant for the evening was Fr Brendan Hayes with Fr Jacob who concelebrated. Congratulations to all the students as you take this important step in your life.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is held every year from 27 May to 3 June.

The aim of Reconciliation Week is to raise awareness of the issues Indigenous people face.

We also celebrate Indigenous cultures and histories, and recognise the achievements and contributions of Indigenous people in all areas of society.

'Grounded in Truth, Walk together in Courage’.

On 13th February 2008 our Federal parliament said sorry to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who were so wronged in the past.

Today we focus on the healing dimension of reconciliation and remember the suffering of the Indigenous people.

We come to say sorry and truly work together to make amends. We recognise that true healing starts by all Australians coming together in compassion and love.

At Assembly on Tuesday, we come united as we pray to God, who will heal our wounds, and free us to love and show compassion, justice and peace to all. All parents are warmly welcomed to join us. Assembly will begin at 2.45 in the Hall.

Grandparents and Special Visitors

This Friday we will be celebrating the gift of Grandparents and special people in our lives. For those children who do not have Grandparents, they are most welcome to invite a special visitor. The celebrations will begin with a Liturgy in the church at 9.15am. The students will line up outside the hall at 9.05am and can be collected to go into the church by their visitors. In the case of rain, the students will straight into the church. Visitors will then spend time in classrooms with the students and morning tea will be provided in the Hall at 10.45am. The celebrations will conclude at 11.15

Congratulations Isabella

After rigorous rounds of auditions, Isabella Schneider (Yr 5) has been selected to perform with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall on July 18 and July 20.  With internationally-renowned conductor Sir Andrew Davis at the helm, Isabella is one of just 30 Australian Girls’ Choir members who will be on stage with the MSO (and selected members of the National Boys Choir) performing in Stravinsky’s Perséphone/The Rite of Spring.  Isabella is absolutely delighted to have this incredible opportunity (learning to sing Stravinsky’s music in French will be quite a challenge!)

Congratulations Isabella. We are very proud of you.

I hope you have a wonderful week. Stay warm!
