News from Michael Term 1 Week 10

The Victorian Catholic Primary Principals Association Conference last week was very worthwhile, affirming and thought provoking. There were many references to teaching students about having a positive mindset and I am confident that many of our students are given strategies from staff in regards to this concept.  The need for allowing students to be creative with a range of technologies that are available to them was also a strong theme that was reinforced by several of the keynote speakers.

Dr Jordan Nguyen was the highlight for me as well as making me feel ‘old.’ This inspiring young man in his early 30’s has already done so much in his life and his creativity is helping many people living with disability. If you have time to watch this, I am sure you will find him fascinating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxuWIXdYYyQ

The fast paced nature of change in our world urges us to constantly assess what do we want to achieve and why. Some interesting quotes that made a connection for me.

“Find your purpose, your why”

“Say to yourself I am enough- I am worthy”

“Human connection is fundamental”

“Perfection does not exist”

“Our greatest growth can come from our darkest moments”

“Transfer information with a story”

“You are in control of your mindset”

“Focus on the things you can control”

“Classroom assessment is the most powerful type of assessment that influences

student learning”

“Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change”

“Learn through stories”

“One Life- Persist to improve many”

“Keep dreams, allow imagination”

“Know thyself-understand yourself and set goals”

“Life use to be linear”

Attending such events is a wonderful opportunity to see and hear ‘big picture’ ideas and concepts.

News on Catherine:

I am happy to report that Catherine's surgery was a success and she is home recuperating. The doctors have already had her up on crutches and she now has the next 5 weeks working hard with physio. We have sent Catherine flowers and the best wishes of the school community  for a speedy recovery.

We ask that parents continue to wait to enter the junior building until 3:30pm each afternoon.

Reminder for 1st week back next term, the children return on Wednesday April 24th.

It is hard to believe we  are already at the end of 1st Term! On behalf of all the staff I wish families a very Happy and Holy Easter - Stay Safe!
