Year 5 & Year 6 Business and Economics Incursion
Our Year 5 and 6 students recently participated in full-day Business and Economics incursions, by Mini Boss who ran the ‘Smoothie’ and ‘Launch’ program. These engaging, hands-on experiences gave students the opportunity to develop practical entrepreneurial and financial skills.
The incursions focused on key curriculum expectations, including:
- Understanding the role of businesses and entrepreneurs in the economy
- Planning and budgeting for a business venture
- Developing marketing and presentation skills
- Understanding consumer decisions and financial responsibility
- Working collaboratively to create, promote and launch a product
During the Mini Boss Year Six Smoothie Incursion, students worked in teams to plan, prepare and sell their own smoothies. They developed essential skills in teamwork, problem-solving and financial literacy, while also experiencing firsthand what it takes to run a small business.
The Launch Incursion built on these skills by challenging students to create and present a product or business idea, giving them the opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial thinking, creativity and understanding of market demands.
These immersive experiences not only supported students’ understanding of business and economics concepts, but also encouraged them to take initiative, make decisions and reflect on real-world challenges in a supportive learning environment.
Our students rose to the challenge brilliantly, demonstrating creativity, resilience and a strong understanding of how businesses operate, skills that will continue to benefit them in their future learning and beyond.
