Dear Parents,
The Victorian Government has announced important changes to the management of COVID-19 cases and close contacts in schools and other settings as we reach the 90% double dose milestone for eligible people in the coming days.
This means that students who are exposed persons (previously identified as close contacts in education settings) from an exposure at school, no longer have to quarantine for between 7 and 14 days. They can instead return immediately to school after providing evidence of a negative result from a standard PCR test to our school.
In exceptional circumstances the Department of Health may determine that close contacts in significant school outbreaks are still required to quarantine for seven days. In this scenario, students will be notified directly of any additional quarantine arrangements.
If your child is currently in quarantine as a contact, you are now able to send your child back to school if you follow these steps:
- your child isn’t a household contact and is instead in quarantine due to a COVID-19 exposure at a school setting
- your child must get a standard test at your local COVID-19 testing site. If the PCR test is negative, please provide the results to our school
- your child can then return to school
- your child will be strongly recommended to take a rapid antigen test at home on days each school weekday morning until you run out of tests. These testing kits will be available from testing centres from Monday 22 November.
Rapid antigen tests are strongly recommended for those students who have returned a negative PCR result and return to school.
They are a great tool for families to use to keep our school safe and ensure that positive cases are identified at the earliest possible time. You will get a pack of five tests and you should use them each day before your child attends school until you run out.
Families should also use a rapid antigen test whenever their child is visiting a high-risk location or setting during this period. This includes visiting elderly or immunocompromised relatives or friends.
Thank you for supporting this important approach, which will help keep our school safe and reduce the disruption to the entire school community. If any staff member or student tests positive to Covid 19, they are asked to notify the school immediately.
Masks Face masks will now only be required by staff, visitors and Years 3 to 6 students in an indoor space within a primary school (or schools which have primary students, such as a P–12 school). The wearing of masks remains recommended for Prep to Year 2 students and in circumstances where physical distancing cannot be maintained. Masks are no longer required in secondary school settings, but are recommended where physical distancing cannot be maintained. Sport Uniform Days Prep: Tuesday and Friday Year 1: Monday and Friday Year 2: Thursday and Friday Year 3: Tuesday and Friday Year 4C: Tuesday and Wednesday Year 4GM: Monday and Wednesday Year 5: Monday and Thursday Year 6: Wednesday and Thursday First Eucharist This week the students in Year 4 will be making their First Eucharist. We ask for God’s blessings on all the students and their families as they receive this important Sacrament for the first time. With the lifting of density limits, all families are welcome to attend. Year 5 Leadership The students in Year 5 will gather this week to prepare for their roles as school leaders next year. Leadership is about the art of motivating, influencing, and directing people so that they work together to achieve the goals of a team and the school community. It’s important for students to experience leadership opportunities during their schooling as they learn the art of building relationships within teams, defining identities, and achieving tasks effectively. It also provides an opportunity to learn to identify and display effective communication and interpersonal skills. We look forward to welcoming the students next year as our school leaders. Swimming Program Over the past two weeks all students participated in the Swimming Program at Aqua Star Swim School. Many thanks to Rene and Peter Smith for welcoming the St Paul’s students and running such an efficient, safe and fun program for the students. Remembrance Day All students and staff stopped on 11 November, to honour the armed forces members who died in the line of duty. Their artwork of the poppies is an enduring symbol of hope and remembrance. School Closure Day This Friday is a pupil free day set aside as a planning day for staff to prepare for 2022. New staff members will join us as we look at the Annual Action Plan for 2022. We will also be looking at the School Improvement Plan, student data, Inquiry units for the next two years, the calendar of events for 2022 and prioritizing extension and support programs. If you require supervision for your child, OSHClub will be open. Refurbishment P-3 Classrooms The builders are making great progress and we are looking forward to relocating the P-Yr 1 students back into their new learning spaces over the next few weeks. The Yr 2-3 students will then move into the Hall and Library areas for the final weeks of the Term. Best wishes, Catherine |
