Mother’s Day

We had an incredibly successful Mother’s Day stall on Thursday followed by a fantastic breakfast on the Friday. A huge thank you to Zoe Holland and her team who organised the Mother's Day stall. I’m sure there were lots of little goodies that made their way to the breakfast tray on Sunday!

A very special thank you to Paul Holland and the St Paul’s Dad’s group who organised the breakfast. The school hall was filled to the brim with mums and their kids enjoying egg and bacon rolls, pastries, fruit and lots of other delicious things. The coffee cart was a big hit! These events make our school the wonderful community that it is where everyone chips in and has a great time in the process. And as always, thank you to Danny Maher who goes above and beyond to make these links between school and parent events such a success.

Cross Country

At the Year 3-6 BDS Cross Country event last week, we had some wonderful Year 5 boys from St Paul’s who helped an injured student from another school. Owen, Jack and Lucas saw an injured runner on the side of the track. They stopped their own race to stay with him until help arrived, making sure the boy was ok. It’s wonderful to see such kindness coming from students in our school community. We’re so proud of these boys!

Cold and flu Season

As winter is fast approaching, we are noticing that there are a number of students who are coming to school quite unwell, with cold and flu symptoms. These symptoms may include a runny nose, sneezing, coughing, sore throat, watery eyes and/or a fever. In order to protect our community, it is vitally important that we monitor these symptoms and keep students home if they are unwell. 

Drop off and Pick up

The drop off zone on Riddle Street is quite a busy area in the mornings. In the interests of keeping everyone safe, especially the students, and to keep traffic flowing, parents are asked to NOT make U-turns here. Whilst there are a great deal of road works and blockages in and around the school at the moment, we do ask that you please continue driving along Riddle Street, rather than trying to turn around. We thank you for your understanding with this, as we try to create a safe drop off and pick up zone for the students.  

Student Achievement - Lincoln Hall

At St Paul’s we like to acknowledge some of the outstanding achievements of our students. Last term, Lincoln progressed through to the State Swimming Championships after winning many lead up events. Lincoln finished 4th in the 50m Freestyle with a personal best time. He also competed at the Regional finals and came second in the 50m Butterfly event. Lincoln should be extremely proud of his achievement as he’s the first St Paul’s student to make the State Swimming finals for many years. Well done, Lincoln!

Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week

Today the Year 5 and 6 students attended an incursion to learn about ‘Sorry Day’ and ‘Reconciliation Week’. They were privileged to listen to Aunty Katrina Amon as she shared stories and information in a way that helped them to understand the significance of these events in the lives of all Australians, in particular our Indigenous Australians. Here are a few statements and learnings from some of the year 6 students:

Rose

• Aunty Katrina talked about how we need to obliterate racism in schools and in our society in general 
• Aunty Katrina told us about important traditions such as smoking ceremonies, Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country as well as other traditions of her Mob. 
• Aunty Katrina told us about her own connection to country, and about their totem and how their totem had a connection to them and their surroundings. She also told us stories from her childhood and the stolen generation.   

Zac M

• Aunty Katrina taught us some of her tribe language.
• Aunty Katrina told us that she works at the St Kilda Footy club to teach all the members about the indigenous culture.
• Aunty Katrina taught us that the Welcome to Country and the Acknowledgement of Country are two different things. 
• Kevin Rudd was the Prime Minister who made the apology to Indigenous Australians for actions of the past.    

Aunty Katrina is very involved with the St Kilda Football Club and the ‘Reboot’ program. She is very pleased with the amount of unused football boots which have been donated already by families here at St Paul's. The box is still in the office area and will remain there till the end of term. If you still have some footy boots you no longer need, please donate them to this program to enable underprivileged indigenous children access to footy boots which they otherwise would not have.

Book Club catalogues are coming home with the students shortly.  Please note all orders are to be processed online (no cash to the office) and the cut-off date is 8 June for delivery and distribution.

On Tuesday 16th May, St. Paul’s entered a team of 54 Runners in the B.D.S. Cross Country Championship. The children ran extremely well in the cold and wet conditions and St. Paul’s finished 4th overall, winning the Adjusted Points Shield for the fourteenth year in a row.  A fantastic result!

From the 54 runners we had 5 children who qualified to run in the Beachside Division Cross Country on Tuesday 30th May at Bald Hill Park. They are:

Matilda Johnson – 9/10 Girls

Matthew Strupl – 11 Boys

April Arundel - 11 Girls

Sienna Woloshenko – 12/13 Girls

Ella Logan – 12/13 Girls

Phys Ed / Sport Coordinator

Please be advised that work is commencing at the intersection of Jasper and Brewer Road from Thursday 25 May.

Crews will be working on weekdays; Monday to Friday between 9.00 am and 3.00 pm. Please note that the dates and times are subject to change due to weather conditions.

Traffic management will be on-site, with reduced speeds and lane closures in place. Further information about construction can be found here: website.
